The Habitat | 2022 The series "The Habitat" depicts an ecosystem in which the natural balance has been disrupted by anthropogenic forces. It is a story told from the perspective of an observer looking down onto the water-tourism-polluted surface of the River Spree in Berlin. My primary motif is pollution commonly found in major cities' water basins; e.g., plastic bottles and grocery bags, discarded batteries, children's toys, and other forms of (mostly plastic) waste. With "The Habitat" series, I aim to show how urban waterscapes have been anthropocenically altered by human overconsumption and debris. Further, I seek to critically and aesthetically challenge the viewer to understand how our actions cause dangerous imbalances in our environment, and transform our planet into an apocalyptic world unfit to sustain any form of life.
